The philosophy of K-iwami
We at Murataya are a traditional kimono specialty store founded in 1890 (Meiji 23).
We have been dealing in traditional Japanese kimonos for over 134 years since our founding in the Iwami region in the western part of Shimane, the "Land of Connections" where gods from all over the country gather.
I want people to know that Shimane has many wonderful resources.
We want to preserve the artisanal skills of "Japanese traditional crafts" for future generations.
We must not lose Japan's traditions and techniques.
With this in mind, we combined new technology with traditional techniques to create the "K-iwami" brand, and developed the "Kiwami" series of ladies' bags.
Japan still has a lot of wonderful technologies, materials, and culture that it can be proud of on the world stage.
Please pick it up and experience the "perfection that lies in the details."

Tradition and cutting edge fusion
K-iwami brand
Murataya was founded in 1890 (Meiji 23) and continues to pass on the traditional crafts, resources, and artisanship of its local Shimane region. "K-iwami" is a brand that offers ultra-lightweight, environmentally friendly products made with genuine craftsmanship.

The origin of "K-iwami"
The western part of Shimane Prefecture, the land of fate, is called "Iwami."
According to mythology and legend, when Izumo and Iwami were one country long ago, divine soldiers gathered together like clouds in an attempt to conquer the country, and that is why the country was named Ihami.
Our company, located in Iwami, weaves the fabric with the spinning company's lightweight fiber "Kaminoito®," dyes it using the traditional craft technique of "Edo Komon®," and finishes it off with the skilled techniques of our experienced bag craftsmen.
We named it "K-iwami" as we felt it was a fitting brand that embodies the region's history, cutting-edge materials, and skilled craftsmanship.

"Quality" that can only be found in Shimane and Iwami
The materials used in the bags are made from "Sekishu Washi," a delicate paper made in Iwami in western Shimane Prefecture that is both strong and flexible.
"Sekishu-banshi" is a precious technique that has been registered as an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO. Shimane Prefecture's proud materials and techniques are generously incorporated into the "Kiwame" series of ladies' bags.
This is an attractive masterpiece that brings together the ultimate skills of each craftsman. We hope that our customers will be able to carry on the tradition by picking up this masterpiece, which is filled with our desire to connect Japan's traditional techniques, which are becoming less common each year, in a new way.

The future that the K-iwami brand aims for
In recent years, there has been a lack of successors in Japanese manufacturing and a decline in traditional crafts. We want to preserve Japan's traditional crafts and artisanal skills for future generations while also helping to alleviate serious environmental issues.
We want to spread the word from Shimane that Japan still has wonderful technologies, materials, and culture that we can be proud of on a global scale.
We will continue to strive to provide you with the best products for a long time to come.
