The philosophy of K-iwami

We at Murataya are a traditional kimono specialty store founded in 1890 (Meiji 23).
We have been dealing in traditional Japanese kimonos for over 134 years since our founding in the Iwami region in the western part of Shimane, the "Land of Connections" where gods from all over the country gather.

I want people to know that Shimane has many wonderful resources.
We want to preserve the artisanal skills of "Japanese traditional crafts" for future generations.
We must not lose Japan's traditions and techniques.

With this in mind, we combined new technology with traditional techniques to create the "K-iwami" brand, and developed the "Kiwami" series of ladies' bags.
Japan still has a lot of wonderful technologies, materials, and culture that it can be proud of on the world stage.
Please pick it up and experience the "perfection that lies in the details."

  • Ultra-lightweight fiber "Kaminoito®"

At the time of development, the fabric was woven with Kaminoito®, an ultra-lightweight fiber produced by a spinning company in Izumo. The material is highly breathable, absorbent, quick-drying, and durable, and has deodorizing, antibacterial, and cooling properties, making it a material that can be used for a long time.

    What is "Kaminoito®"?
  • Dyeing technique "Edo Komon®"

Fabric woven with "Kaminoito®" has been designated by the Minister of Economy, Trade and Industry and dyed using the traditional dyeing technique "Edo Komon®" to create beautiful patterns, which have also been adopted as the emblem mark for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

  • Sewing master "Hajimezawa"

The future that the K-iwami brand aims for

In recent years, there has been a lack of successors in Japanese manufacturing and a decline in traditional crafts. We want to preserve Japan's traditional crafts and artisanal skills for future generations while also helping to alleviate serious environmental issues.
We want to spread the word from Shimane that Japan still has wonderful technologies, materials, and culture that we can be proud of on a global scale.

We will continue to strive to provide you with the best products for a long time to come.
